Unram Professor Allegedly Violating Ethics, Ombudsman Monitors Sanction Process

The Indonesian Ombudsman Representative for West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) monitors reports of alleged maladministration in the application of ethical sanctions against a Professor of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Mataram University (Unram), Prof. Hamsu Kadriyan.

The Head of the Indonesian Ombudsman Representative for NTB, Dwi Sudarsono, said that this monitoring was a follow-up to a copy of the report submitted by Prof. Hamsu to the Unram Chancellor through his attorney.

"Yes, last Tuesday entered (the gust)," said Dwi in Mataram, Friday, as reported by Antara.

With a copy of the report, Dwi said that the Ombudsman could not take action before there was an internal completion of Unram.

"If within 14 working days there is no completion, only those with an interest can report the alleged maladministration to the NTB Ombudsman," he said.

Previously, Prof. Hamsu Kadriyan through his attorney Dr. Ainuddin expressed his objection to the ethical violation decision issued by the Unram Chancellor Prof. Bambang Hari Kusumo. This was followed up by writing to the Unram Chancellor.

Prof. Hamsu received the decree for an act that allegedly violated ethics in the 2021 period while still serving as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Unram.

However, the letter was published in early October 2025 ahead of the Unram Chancellor election contestation.

Ainudddin assessed that the issuance of the letter was part of an attempt to thwart Prof. Hamsu became a member of the senate as well as an attempt to hinder Prof. Hamsu in the nomination contestation of the Unram Chancellor.

According to the regulations, the requirement to be Senate is proposed by each faculty. The faculty is given a senate allotment of five people, provided that it consists of two professors and three professors.

"Prof. Hamsu is the only professor in the medical faculty. Of course, he was proposed through the dean's decision," he said.

Thus, Prof. Hamsu should be one of the senate selected from the medical faculty. The faculty's plea was then submitted to the rector for approval.

However, in the decree on the appointment of the university's senate, there is no name Prof. Hamsu.

The appointment of the senate itself, according to Ainuddin, did not go through transparent procedures, including with the inauguration of the senate.

He assessed that the process was not open. Prof. Hamsu only found out about the Senate's inauguration on October 13, 2025, even though the inauguration ceremony took place on October 7, 2025.

"But without any official reports, without any administrative rejection, suddenly Prof. Hamsu doesn't have a name," he said.

Meanwhile, Unram Chancellor, Prof. Bambang Hari Kusumo, who was confirmed on the matter, has not yet responded, either by telephone and message.
