Chronology Of The Lumajang Police Headquarters Attacked By Residents After Detainees Of The Theft Case Died

The tense situation occurred at the Lumajang Resort Police Headquarters (Mapolres), East Java, on the evening of Sunday, October 12. Dozens of residents attacked the police station and carried out anarchist acts. This incident was the result of the death of a prisoner in a theft case.

Based on information at the location, the masses came using four pickups at around 19.00 WIB. Arriving in front of the police chief, they shouted for an explanation for the prisoner's death. The situation heated up when the crowd began breaking through the main gate and throwing stones at the office yard.

Officers on guard tried to calm the crowd, but the increasing number of residents made the situation difficult to control. After the gates were broken, the masses stormed the main lobby area and damaged a number of facilities.

The police then took security measures to prevent widespread unrest. A total of 18 people were arrested for allegedly being involved in acts of vandalism and provocation. "We arrested 18 people from this incident and they are being investigated," said Head of Public Relations of the Lumajang Police, Ipda Untoro, Monday, October 13.

Prior to the attack, some residents had visited the hospital where the suspect was being treated and demanded an explanation of his death. They accused the existence of alleged violence during the detention process. The tension then spread to the Lumajang Police Headquarters.

After the situation was successfully controlled, the police confirmed that the condition of the headquarters was safe even though a number of facilities suffered minor damage. "For now, the situation is under control," said Untoro.
