The Reason Prabowo Appoints Amran To Multiple Positions: Minister Of Agriculture And Head Of Badanas

JAKARTA - Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi explained the reasons behind the decision of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto to appoint Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Amran Sulaiman to concurrently serve as Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), replacing Arief Prasetyo Adi.

Prasetyo, said that the decision was taken because the functions and duties of Badanas have been closely related to the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan).

"So you see, that actually the function of the food agency's duties used to be at the Ministry of Agriculture and because Mas Arief was trying to assign it to another place, then the function was immediately held by the Minister of Agriculture," said Prasetyo at the residence of President Prabowo, Kertanegara area, Jakarta, Sunday, October 12 evening.

He said the coordination between Bapanas and the Ministry of Agriculture had been in harmony, so the appointment of Amran was considered an efficient step to strengthen national food management.

"The Minister of Agriculture and Bapanas always go hand in hand," he added.

Regarding the news of the decline in the quality of rice in the market, Prasetyo said there was no direct report to the President, but the government still made it a major concern.

"Indeed, it is the focus of the Ministry of Agriculture and friends in Bulog on how to improve storage management. Our warehouses need repair and addition, including the construction of new warehouses in 100 places," he said.

He added that the President had also asked for support from the TNI and Polri to help build food innovation warehouses and coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs so that the strengthening of food reserves could reach the village level.

"Food-producing centers are to be as fierce as before. We must have a food barn or rice barn in each village so that we are truly independent in food," said Prasetyo.

President Prabowo has officially appointed Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman as Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) replacing Arief Prasetyo Adi.

The decision was contained in a copy of Presidential Decree (Keppres) number 116/P of 2025 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of the Head of the National Agency which was signed by the Head of State on October 9, 2025.
