Fisherman Lamno Aceh Can't Go To Sea Due To Kuala Shallow

BANDA ACEH - Fishermen in the Lhok Kuala Daya area, Lamno, Aceh Jaya Regency were unable to go to sea due to the shallowness of the local fishery port kuala.

"This condition is already very concerning, especially since the main economy of the local community is fishing," said Aceh's Chairman of the Indonesian Traditional Fishermen Association (KNTI), Azwar Anas, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 9.

Azwar said, based on a report received from the Panglima Laot (Aceh traditional fishing agency) Lhok Kuala, the number of fishermen in the sub-district area reached hundreds of people. This condition greatly affects the economy of the people there.

The fishermen, he said, really expected the government's helping hand to build a wave-breaking embankment and dredging the quala so that access to the sea would run smoothly again.

"The shallow issue of Kuala is not new, it always happens every year, but until now the government seems to be closing its eyes," he said.

Supposedly, continued Azwar, with the amount of Aceh's special autonomy funds (otsus), the government should pay attention to the fate of small fishermen who have been food heroes for the community.

"We hope that the Governor of Aceh can show real concern for small fishermen or traditional fishermen who are currently in trouble," he said.

He also explained that in the last few months, many fishermen have experienced disasters due to the shallowness of Kuala.

"Therefore, we also hope that the people's representatives in parliament can fight for the budget for empowering fishing communities, including the assistance of facilities and infrastructure to support fishing activities," said Azwar.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Aceh Jaya Marine, Fisheries and Food Service, Ridwan, confirmed that one of the livelihoods of the people in the Kuala Daya Lhok area, Lamno from the fisheries sector.

Regarding this, he said, the Aceh Jaya Government has prepared a DED (Detail Engineering Design) for the construction of the Lhok Kuala Daya PPI, and one of the points is the construction of a breakwater (wave breaker).

He said, previously at that location already had a breakwater, but it was shorter, so it quickly made Kuala shallow again, and happened so quickly.

"For that, we hope that the breakwater construction will be realized quickly, so that the activities of fishermen there can run smoothly again," said Ridwan.
