JAKARTA - Cuba condemns the violation of Venezuela's airspace by US fighter jets that are considered a threat to peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Friday, October 3, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said the US fighter jet carried out an "illegal invasion" of the Venezuelan aviation information agency (FIR).
FIR is an airspace managed by a country to provide information and warning services for aircraft.
"We warn that this action threatens regional peace, security and stability. Latin America and the Caribbean are peaceful zones," Rodriguez said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, October 3.
Meanwhile, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said five US warplanes, suspected of being F-35, were detected crossing his country's airspace.
Several international airline pilots also reported seeing the jets over the Caribbean Sea, near Venezuela's coast.
Padrino called the incident a "provocation and threat to national security." He also warned of a "miscal calculation" risk in the event of aggression.
Meanwhile, Semafor media quoted a source in the US government as saying Washington did not rule out an attack on Venezuela's territory as part of an operation to fight drug cartels.
