Judge Asks Rizieq Shihab's Prosecution Hearing Today, Lawyers: Actually Objections, But We Understand

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta District Court judge plans to continue the trial of Rizieq Shihab on the case of alleged crowds in Petamburan with the agenda of reading the charges. The plan is that the trial will take place in the afternoon.

"Can we suspend the trial to settle the charges? It was over yesterday or the skeleton was done. How?" said presiding judge Suparman Nyompa at the hearing, Monday, May 17.

The judge gave the option of a prosecution hearing being read out today because of another adal jadwa. Rizieq's sentencing hearing will be read tuesday, May 18.

In response to the statement, the public prosecutor (JPU) was willing. Because, the claim file is completed.

"If we are allowed, to prepare we are ready to read the charges," the prosecutor said.

Meanwhile, after the trial, Rizieq Shihab's lawyer, Aziz Yanuar said he objected to the panel of judges about the plan of the trial that will be immediately continued with the reading of the charges

However, Aziz respects whatever the decision of the panel of judges. Because, the reason of the panel of judges was because it must be a judge at another trial tomorrow.

"Actually we object (today's demands) but we understand the panel of judges there is also an agenda tomorrow that can not be abandoned. Yes we respect again we expect wisdom from him," aziz said.

Rizieq Shihab in this case is alleged to have sedition to create a crowd in Petamburan in the wedding ceremony of his daughter and the prophet Muhammad SAW maulid.

In sedition, Rizieq was assisted by five former FPI officials (separately prosecuted). They are Haris Ubaidillah, Ahmad Sabri Lubis, Ali Alwi Alatas, Idrus aka Idrus AL-Habsyi, and Maman Suryadi.

Rizieq was charged with violating Article 160 of the Criminal Code jo Article 93 of Law No. 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine jo Article 55 paragraph 1-1 of the Criminal Code and or Article 82 paragraph 1 jo Article 1 59 paragraph 3 letter c and d Law No. 16 of 2017 concerning Community Organization jo Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 penal code jo Article 10 letter b penal code jo Article 35 paragraph 1 penal code.
