Bacteria E. Coli Causes Lombok Students Toxic MBG

The Mataram City Police said that the Escherichia Coli (E. Coli) bacteria allegedly caused a number of students in the Narmada area, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara to experience symptoms of poisoning after eating Free Nutrition Food (MBG).

Head of the Unit (Kanit) of Certain Crimes (Tipidter) of the Mataram Police Satreskrim Ipda Imamul Ahyar said this allegation emerged from the results of checking samples of the remaining MBG from the Mataram Food and Drug Supervisory Center (BPOM) Laboratory.

"So, we have received the results of the BPOM laboratory check. E. Coli bacteria were found in several foods," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 30.

Even though they have received the results from experts, Ahyar emphasized that his party has not been able to conclude this as the cause. Instead, there is still a series to strengthen evidence in the legal process that is running at the stage of this investigation.

"We have to ask for information from the nutritionist BBPOM Mataram, later we will write it, yesterday we coordinated directly, but it said not, or it has not been stated with the BAP (examination report)," he said.

In addition to nutritionists, this series of investigations also scheduled a request for information from the organizers to continue with food providers from public kitchens.

"Maybe the nutritionist will be later. Now it's still from the health office running. So, this is still the investigation stage, later when everything is finished, we will hold it," he said.

This alleged poisoning case was handled by the Mataram Police based on the follow-up to the report on September 17, 2025. Students who experienced symptoms of poisoning occurred in two schools, namely SDN 1 Nyiurlembang and SDN 1 Selat.

The poisoning incident experienced by a number of students occurred on September 3, 2025. A total of six students were poisoned. Three from SDN 1 Nyiurlembang and others from SDN 1 Selat.

The victim was reported to have experienced similar symptoms, nausea and stomach pain. At the time of the incident, they were rushed to the local health center.
