Corn Harvest Quarter III, National Police Chief: Commitment To Realize World Food Barns

PALEMBANG - National Police Chief Jender Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that the National Police will continue to support the government to make Indonesia a world food barn.

The statement was made while leading the third quarter corn harvest in East Oku Regency, South Sumatra, Saturday, September 27.

"In this third quarter of the corn harvest, we will carry out an area of 166,512 hectares, with an estimated harvest of 751,442 tons which we will carry out until the end of September," said Sigit in his remarks, Saturday, September 27.

According to him, the main harvest in the East Oku region is carried out on an area of 52 hectares. Meanwhile, for all of Indonesia today, a harvest of 1,288 hectares is carried out with the hope of a yield of 7,153 tons.

"Especially today, we will send 1,765 tons of corn to be absorbed by Bulog and specifically in South Sumatra Province as much as 614 tons and 100 tons from Oku we will prioritize to Bulog," he said.

In addition, Sigit emphasized that the National Police will continue to strengthen the agricultural ecosystem of the corn community. The National Police also prioritizes cooperatives as the leading sector to unite interests from upstream to downstream.

With the involvement of cooperatives, it is believed that it will help free farmers and cut the chain of tengkulak. In addition, it is believed to be able to ensure stable corn prices.

"Moreover, at this time, the President has launched a red-and-white cooperative program spread throughout Indonesia," said the National Police Chief.

It is detailed that overall the National Police has obtained an area of 819,081 hectares, of which 483,822 hectares have been planted. Then, 46,076 farmer groups consisting of 858,924 farmers throughout Indonesia have been formed.

"Therefore, by following the mandate of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, that food self-sufficiency is the key to food security and self-sufficiency is the key to independence, we emphasize that the Polri's commitment has never subsided in supporting and overseeing all government agendas, including in realizing noble ideals to make Indonesia a world food barn," explained General Sigit.

It is known that the harvest activity was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Chairman of Commission IV Titiek Suharto, President Director of Perum Bulog Lt. Gen. Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, and Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran.
