RI-Maldives Relive Bilateral Relations, Foreign Minister Sugiono: Strengthen Friendship

JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sugino said, reviving bilateral relations with the Maldives, strengthening friendship and contributing to the interests of each country.

He said this when meeting with Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel between the 80th General Assembly (SMU) of the United Nations.

"Indonesia and the Maldives are committed to reviving bilateral relations," said Foreign Minister Sugiono in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saturday, September 27.

Furthermore, the two Foreign Ministers emphasized their commitment to strengthening cooperation in various fields, including public health.

In this regard, both parties emphasized the importance of increasing the capacity of public health services as well as exchanging technical experiences, including in the development of health insurance programs.

"Through public health cooperation and support in international fora, we strengthen friendship and contribute to the common interest," explained Foreign Minister Sugiono.

In addition to the bilateral context, the two foreign ministers are also exploring cooperation to support each other for candidacy in various international organizations, as a form of mutual solidarity and commitment in fighting for global interests.

It is known that Indonesia and the Maldives have been in diplomatic relations since 1974. Closeness as an archipelagic country, as well as collaboration in the tourism sector and sustainable development are important foundations that encourage both countries to continue to strengthen friendship and cooperation in the future.
