JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) with nuclear weapons is a real threat that must be prevented.
Speaking at the Open Debate of the UN Security Council with the theme "AI in Military and Security Domain" under the Presidency of the Republic of Korea at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, Foreign Minister Sugiono said Indonesia's biggest concern, said Foreign Minister Sugiono, was the use of AI in operating and nuclear control systems that would further increase the existential risk of nuclear weapons.
"This is not a science fiction story, but a real threat that must be prevented," said Foreign Minister Sugiono warning, quoted from a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Friday, September 26.
In a statement, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that international law including the UN Charter, humanitarian law, human rights law, and the stripped and non-proliferation regime must be the basis.
In addition, decision-making on the use of weapons should not be submitted to the algorithm, said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
"The sandals must be held by humans with full responsibility and accountability," Foreign Minister Sugiono underlined.
