Redam Gejolak Conflict, Alor Police Return 5 Youths Involved In Brawls To Parents

Alor Police, East Nusa Tenggara, has repatriated five youths involved in a brawl in Kalabahi City, Alor Regency, to their parents after previously being arrested by the authorities.

Head of Public Relations of the NTT Police, Kombes Henry Novika Chandra, said the decision was taken after the Alor Police Chief together with the Deputy Chief of Police and the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit held an internal meeting to reduce the potential for further conflict as well as follow up on the aspirations of the community and regional leaders.

The Alor Police took the middle way by handing over five youths from West Welai to the Chairman of the DPRD to be handed over to their respective parents. This is a form of a humanist approach so that the situation remains safe and does not develop into a new turmoil," he said as quoted by Antara.

The five youths who were sent home had the initials IjL (16), PLM (16), YP (18), JM (15), and DL (17).

In addition, there were still 14 other youths who were also arrested in the incident and are currently undergoing a clarification process at the Alor Police Satreskrim Hall.

"They are treated without excessive action and will be repatriated gradually after making a statement," Henry said.

He emphasized that the NTT Police will continue to prioritize persuasive steps in maintaining security stability in Alor.

The NTT Police Chief emphasized that every step of the National Police must be professional, proportional, and humanist. The legal process continues, but the handling in the field must also take into account the community's spiritual atmosphere," he said.

The NTT Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Darmoko also appealed to the public, especially youth in Alor, not to be provoked by issues or invitations that could break up brotherhood and emphasize the importance of solving problems through legal channels, not acts of violence.
