Here's A Look At The Flash Floods That Hit Parapat Sumut

JAKARTA - Floods and landslides that hit Parapat, Simalungun, North Sumatra caused the cross-Sumatra road to be completely paralyzed.

The streets were submerged by flash flood water accompanied by avalanche material. Vehicles are diverted via alternative routes.

Simalungun AKBP Police Chief Agus Waluyo said it was deploying personnel to clean up flood and avalanche materials.

"Our line is closed and diverted through alternative channels," akbp Agus Waluyo was quoted as saying ERA.id, Thursday, May 13.

Agus said that the cleaning of materials is focused on jalinsum line located in Sualan Village, Nagori Sigagandang, Girsang Sipangan Bolon District.

Motorists heading to Balige from the direction of Pematangsiantar City are diverted through Simpang Palang and out of Sitahuan Sipangan Bolon.

"While those from the opposite lane are diverted into Simpang Sitahuan and exit at Simpang Palang without passing through Parapat City Center," he said.

The cleaning process is still ongoing to ensure the Jalinsum can return to normal.

"The point is, brought flooding, on top of landslides, so through Simpang Palang first," he continued.
