Minister Mukhtarudin Calls NTB A Fourth Ordered Migrant Worker Supplier Area

JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Mukhtarudin said the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) region is one of the sources or suppliers of strong migrant workers.

This was conveyed when he inaugurated the Golden Migrant Village in NTB virtually.

NTB is known as the area that sends strong migrant workers, even ranks fourth most nationally. Thousands of NTB residents have made the nation proud while supporting the family and regional economy," said Minister Mukhtarudin, quoted on Thursday, September 11.

According to him, in the midst of the many open foreign job opportunities, the government continues to prioritize the creation of domestic jobs. However, job opportunities abroad must also be used procedurally and safely, especially since Indonesia in 2030 will enter the peak of the demographic bonus.

Mukhtarudin emphasized that the high placement of Indonesian migrant workers was still accompanied by serious challenges, namely the rise of non-procedural placement cases that could potentially lead to exploitation, violence, and trafficking in persons. Therefore, the state must be present from the smallest unit, namely the village.

"The Golden Migrant Village was formed to ensure the protection and empowerment of Indonesian migrant workers was carried out from the start of the migration process. The village became the first gateway for information, training, and skills, so that migrant workers could leave safely and return prosperous," he said.

Furthermore, the village of Migrant Gold was also designed as a space for sharing successful experiences for Retired Indonesian migrant workers as well as a forum for inspiration and empowerment of migrant families.

"We want every prospective Indonesian migrant worker to have access to correct information, adequate skills, legal protection, and free from discrimination. No one should be left behind. The village of Migrant Gold is present as an initial bulwark against TIP and illegal placement practices," he said.

At the end of his remarks, Mukhtarudin invited all stakeholders, from local governments, security forces, the community, to Indonesian migrant workers' families to join hands to make NTB an example of the success of safe and procedural migration.

"With the spirit of togetherness, I believe NTB can be an example of how this nation protects its citizens, both in the country and abroad," concluded Minister Mukhtarudin.
