House Of Representatives Commission III: Ethics Becomes A Determinant For Selection Of Candidates For Supreme Court Justices

JAKARTA Member of Commission III DPR RI Abdullah mentioned the importance of ethical and moral requirements in the selection of candidates for Supreme Court justices. According to him, ethical requirements must be a determinant because the duties of Supreme Court justices are often colored by many temptations and opportunities for conflicts of interest.

"If we look at the prerequisites for candidates for Supreme Court justices, both career and non-carriage candidates, there are some requirements that are indeed lacking. Namely, ethical and moral requirements," Abdullah said in a meeting of Commission III of the DPR with the Selection Committee (Pansel) for Candidates for Supreme Court Justices and Candidates for Ad Hoc MA Judges at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, South Jakarta, Monday, September 8.

Abdullah said, many people are smart in Indonesia and have extraordinary educational backgrounds. This, he said, can be seen from the candidates for judges who have registered where their educational background cannot be doubted.

"The names who are already in this stage, there is no need to doubt the issue of education and knowledge in the field of law," said the PKB legislator from the Central Java VI electoral district.

However, according to Abdullah, in Indonesia at this time there is not a knowledge crisis, but an honest and ethical person.

"The current issue is related to ethics and morals. Therefore, ethical and moral requirements are very important in the selection of candidates for Supreme Court justices," he said.

According to him, ethical requirements are very important for candidates for Supreme Court justices, because they will face temptation and pressure in carrying out their duties. He considered that the opportunity for conflict of interest was very wide open.

Abdullah added, if you have integrity and high ethical standards, the Supreme Court will be able to face all these challenges. So, according to him, in the selection of candidates for Supreme Court justices, there must be ethical and moral requirements.

"The judges are representatives and hands of God on earth. They must be able to provide justice for everyone. Justice can only be given by judges who are honest and adhere to high moral ethics," he concluded.
