BMKG Explains The Lunar Eclipse In Riau Islands Is Seen Even Though The Sky Is Cloudy

BATAM - Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Class I Meteorological Station Hang Nadim Batam explained that the red moon eclipse can still be seen in the sky of the Riau Islands, even though the sky is currently covered by thin clouds.

"Most of the sky in Riau Islands is thin cloudy, it can still be penetrated by the light of the moon," said Head of BMKG Hang Nadim Batam Station Ramlan confirmed in Batam, Antara, Sunday, September 7 evening.

Lunar eclipses can be monitored since 17:00 WIB throughout Indonesia. However, for the Riau Islands region, especially in Batam City, until 19:51 WIB the sky is still shrouded in thin clouds.

According to Ramlah, the people of Riau Islands can enjoy a red moon eclipse throughout the region from 23:30 WIB to 00:30 WIB when the total lunar eclipse occurs.

"All over Riau Islands (the lunar eclipse) can be seen as long as it is not covered by clouds. Currently, some Riau Islands are still shrouded in thin clouds," he said.

He explained that the total eclipse phase occurred at 00:01 WIB, if the sky was not covered by clouds, then the people of Riau Islands could witness this natural phenomenon.

Until 23:23 WIB, the sky in Riau Islands, especially Batam City, was still cloudy, but the light of the moon was bright, emitting bright yellow residents, not yet showing red.

Ramlan said there was no early warning of wave height or tidal flooding in the Riau Islands coastal area during the lunar eclipse, because the effect was insignificant.

"The impact on sea level changes is not too significant, because it happened at midnight. Meanwhile, the sea level this afternoon was mostly receding sea levels, so it experienced a little silting," said Ramlan.

For the time region of West Indonesia (WIB), this total lunar eclipse can be seen starting at 22:28 WIB, the penumbral eclipse phase begins, then at 23:27 WIB the partial eclipse begins, at 00:30 WIB the beginning of the total lunar eclipse phase, at 01:28 WIB the peak of the total lunar eclipse, at 01:52 WIB the end of the total lunar eclipse phase, at 02:56 WIB the partial eclipse ended and 03:55 WIB the penumbral eclipse ended.
