Formappi Urges All Allowances For DPR Members To Be Evaluated For Benefits

The Indonesian Parliamentary Concerned Community Forum (Formappi) urges a comprehensive evaluation of the allowances for DPR members.

This was conveyed by Formappi researcher Lucius Karus who appreciated the DPR's move to abolish housing allowances but also considered this decision not to be maximized. Because there are other benefits such as recess allowances, aspiration allowances, aspiration houses and others.

"These conditions related to recesses and aspirations are not given every month but every time a recess and visit to the electoral district," said Lucius in a written statement, Saturday, September 6.

Another allowance that is in the spotlight is the allowance for positions and honorary allowances for members of the DPR.

These are two benefits with the same meaning. Both of them want to respect the position of a member of the DPR. Why should it be made into two types of allowances, especially the nominal value for each of them is quite large Rp. 9,700,000, which is an allowance for office, while Rp. 7,187,000 for honorary allowances for members of the DPR RI," he said.

Therefore, Formappi hopes that the DPR will not only remove housing allowances and reduce nominal allowances for other types of allowances. Parliament is required to make improvements.

"The types of allowances must really evaluate the benefits," said Lucius.

"So a thorough evaluation of this type of allowance is needed to see the effectiveness of these allowances given to members," he continued.

Previously reported, the DPR cut allowances and a number of council member facilities, such as electricity subscription fees, telephone services, intensive communication, and transportation allowances. This agreement was taken after a consultation meeting of the DPR leadership with factions on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

"The DPR RI will cut allowances and facilities for members of the DPR after the evaluation includes subscription fees. There is electricity and telephone service costs, then intensive communication costs and transportation allowance costs," said Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at a press conference, Friday, September 5.

In addition to cutting these allowances and facilities, Dasco continued, the DPR also agreed to stop providing housing allowances for DPR RI members starting on August 31, 2025.

"As well as conducting a moratorium on working abroad visits to the DPR RI starting from September 1, 2025, except for attending state laws," he said.
