COVID-19 Death Toll In Tanjungpinang Soars By 200 Percent

TANJUNGPINANG - The Task Force on Handling COVID-19 Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands recorded the number of people who died due to COVID-19 in January 2021 until now increased by almost 200 percent compared to 2020.

The number of people who died due to COVID-19 in Tanjungpinang in March-December 2020 was 22 people. While January 2021 increased to 58 people.

Head of Disease Control and Eradication Dinkes Tanjungpinang Susi, said that the number of people who died due to COVID-19 in the last two months is quite high.

"In addition to the rapid transmission of COVID-19, the number of people who died from being infected with the virus is also high," Susi was quoted as saying by Antara on Wednesday, May 12.

Susi said it is not yet known whether COVID-19 infecting tanjungpinang residents is a new variant or not. However, the Ministry of Health is researching the type of virus.

"We are still waiting for the results," he said.

Based on data from the Task Force on Handling COVID-19 Kepri as of May 11, 2021, the number of active cases of COVID-19 in Tanjungpinang as many as 364 people. The total number of COVID-19 patients since the COVID-19 pandemic to date reached 2,519 people.

The number of patients recovering from COVID-19 is 2,098 people. "There are many family clusters and government clusters today," he said.

He stated that as many as 30 health workers contracted COVID-19 from patients. Today they are still undergoing self-isolation.

Some health workers are infected while treating COVID-19 patients. "There are health workers who are infected in the puskesmas," he said.

Susi pointed out the number of health workers in Tanjungpinang about 2,900 people. All health workers who contracted COVID-19 are in good condition, not symptomatic. That's because all health workers have been injected with the first and second doses of vaccines.

"No one was treated, because some health workers had mild symptoms. Some of it, it's not symptomatic," he said.
