Depression, Bone Residents End Life By Jumping Into The River

MAKASSAR - A resident named Muhammad Nahir (45) was found dead by the SAR team after desperate to jump off a river bridge in Watu Village, Cenrana District, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi, Wednesday 9 September.

"After three hours of searching, the bodies of the victims were found by the Joint SAR Team at a distance of 10 meters from the location where the victim fell," said Head of Operations and Alert Section of the Makassar Class A Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas), Andi Sultan.

After being found, the victim's body was then evacuated from the river and has been handed over to the family to be taken to the funeral home. The SAR operation was declared closed.

"The victim has been handed over to the family. We express our gratitude for the potential for SAR who are members of the team for the implementation of today's operation," he added.

From the information obtained, the victim is known to be a resident of Waji Village, Tellusettinge District, Bone Regency. Witnesses saw the victim this morning suddenly jumping from the bridge.

Based on this information, the Basarnas team received news that a missing resident was suspected of drowning in a local river by sending a team to carry out rescue operations.

According to eyewitness accounts, they saw the victim jumping from the bridge and the residents had tried to prevent it, but it was too late because the victim first jumped into the river.

The search was divided into three teams. Team one uses a rubber boat to the downstream of the river. Team two uses a rubber boat by making waves made from around the bottom of the bridge.

A team combed downstream of the river and another team made artificial waves around the scene of the incident under the bridge. As a result, the victim was found dead this afternoon.

From the residents' statements, the reason the victim was desperate to end her life jumping into the river was suspected to be due to depression due to her illness that she had not recovered.
