Lembang Park and Zoo Public Relations Officer Miftah Setiawan confirmed the escape of a leopard from the cage of the conservation institution.
"The release is a deposit from the BKSDA Center, a leopard about three years old. This animal is the result of a rescue from Kuningan," Miftah said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 28.
Miftah said the tiger was previously the result of an evacuation from Kutamandarakan Village Hall, Maleber District, Kuningan Regency.
The leopard was entrusted to Lembang Park and Zoo, West Bandung Regency on Tuesday (26/8) night to undergo a three-day quarantine and observation period. However, on the third day, the animal broke into the cage and fled.
According to him, the animal escaped at around 05.30 WIB. Previously at 04.30 WIB the animal was still in the cage.
"The leopard is thought to be stressed due to adaptation in a new environment, thus breaking into the top of the quarantine cage," he said.
He revealed that on Thursday morning the leopard would undergo the latest observation before being released back into the Mount Ciremai area, Kuningan.
"So while waiting for release, observations and environmental assessments are carried out here. But it turns out to be stressful, so it runs away," said Miftah.

Head of the West Java Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA), Agus Arianto, said Lembang Park and Zoo was chosen as an observation location because it has adequate quarantine facilities and veterinarians.
At first, he wanted to be entrusted to the Cikembulan Conservation Institute, Garut. However, because the animal health facilities there were not complete, it was decided to be brought to Lembang," said Agus.
