UGM Deactivates Student Suspect in Kidnapping and Murder Case of BRI Branch Manager

YOGYAKARTA - Gadjah Mada University (UGM) has suspended the student with the initials DH, who is one of the suspects in the kidnapping and murder of Muhammad Ilham Pradipta, Head of the BRI Cempaka Putih Bank Branch in Central Jakarta.

UGM spokesperson I Made Andi Arsana stated that DH was registered as a new first-semester student in the Master of Management Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at UGM's Jakarta campus.

"The person concerned has been suspended from all academic activities for the odd semester of 2025/2026 as a form of UGM's support for the legal process and ongoing investigation," said Andi Arsana, as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 27.

According to him, the decision to suspend DH was made through an official letter from the Dean of FEB UGM, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, S.E., M.Com., Ak., CA.

UGM, Andi said, expressed its deepest condolences for the passing of Muhammad Ilham Pradipta and strongly condemned all forms of violence.

"UGM fully respects the ongoing legal process, upholds the presumption of innocence, and is committed to maintaining integrity and professionalism," he said.

He emphasized that UGM supports all stakeholders in working according to regulations to ensure the case is quickly resolved. "We hope justice can be served for all parties," Andi said.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) confirmed that Dwi Hartono (DH), a motivational speaker and online tutoring entrepreneur, was one of the intellectual actors or masterminds behind the kidnapping and murder of Mohamad Ilham Pradipta (37) of the Head of the BRI Cempaka Putih Branch Office, Bank BRI.

DH was arrested by a joint team from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police along with two other suspects in Solo, Central Java, on Saturday (August 23) evening.

A day later, police arrested another perpetrator in Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta. To date, a total of 15 people have been arrested in connection with this case, consisting of the executors and the intellectual actors.
