JAKARTA - A fatal accident involving a bus carrying migrant workers, trucks and motorbikes in western Afghanistan left 76 people dead on Tuesday, August 19 evening.

Police said the accident was due to negligence from the bus driver when dealing with a tryk and motorbike on the main road in Guzara district, Herat Province.

The Governor of Herat Province, Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, said that on the AFP, Wednesday, August 20, the bus took Afghan migrant workers who had just returned from Iran to the capital Kabul.

A big wave of Afghan arrivals from Iran has occurred in recent months. This comes after Iran started a campaign to force millions of migrants back to their origins.

According to the United Nations migration agency, at least 1.5 million people have returned to Afghanistan since the start of this year. Those returning from Iran and Pakistan, two countries that have long housed millions of Afghan refugees out of war and a decades-long humanitarian crisis.
