Bogor City DPRD Highlights Bad Waste Management After The Galuga TPA Tragedy

BOGOR Deputy Chairman II of the Bogor City DPRD, Zenal Abidin, called for a complete improvement to the waste management system in Bogor City after the tragic development at the Galuga Final Disposal Site (TPA). He conveyed that this incident that claimed lives was a reflection of poor waste management at the local level.

The tragedy began on Monday morning, August 11, 2025, at around 08.00 WIB, when the Civil Servant (PNS) of the Bogor City Environment Agency (DLH), Agus Haris Mulyana (49), had a work accident.

In the process of flattening the pile of garbage using heavy equipment, excavators or bulldozers suddenly landslide waste material and hit the equipment and operators in the cabin. He was buried and suffered serious head injuries and died at the location, although he was evacuated to Leuwiliang Hospital.

Zenal Abidin said, This incident clearly shows that waste management has not been running effectively so far. The increasing waste months without a strong processing system make risks like this can arise at any time.

He reminded the city government to strengthen the waste management system from the regional level, especially through maximum operational TPS-3R. That way, the volume of waste sent to Galuga can be more controlled.

In addition, Zenal also highlighted the need for more optimal use of land around the Galuga TPA. He mentioned the importance of building buffer zones and expanding stockpiling areas to increase waste management capacity while reducing the risk of landslides.

TPS-3R, which used to be the spearhead of waste management, must be reactivated. With increased waste processing in the city, the burden on Galuga can be reduced and the risk of a similar tragedy can be minimized," he said.

He also asked the Bogor City Government to be open about alternative schemes for the use of other garbage collection locations, such as the Lulut-Nambo TPA, if Galuga is no longer suitable for use.

Zenal emphasized the importance of transparency in the use of the APBD to tip the fees of the two TPA locations so as not to cause confusion in the community.

All scenarios and possibilities must be carried out so that this kind of tragedy does not happen again. This is a strong warning to all of us," he concluded.
