Rizieq Shihab Add Expert, Judge: We Must Withdraw His Demands

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta District Court judge decided to postpone the reading of the charges for defendant Rizieq Shihab in the case of alleged violations of health protocols in Petamburan. The reason is, Rizieq Shihab's team of lawyers will present additional experts.

"So the public prosecutor forced us to reverse the reading of the charges. At the latest on Tuesday, May 18 we read the charges", said presiding judge Suparman Nyompa in a hearing at the East Jakarta District Court, Tuesday, May 10.

With the prosecution's agenda postponed, Suparman said there was a shift in the agenda of the trial. Most notably, the Agenda Criminal Procedure Law planned to take place on May 17, is backdated to May 20.

"Give time until May 20 to provide defenses. After that it's just a verdict, whether it's Friday or not", Suparman said.

In the case of the Petamburan crowd, Rizieq was accused of sedition to create a crowd in Petamburan in the wedding ceremony of his daughter and the death of the prophet Muhammad SAW.

Rizieq was charged with violating Article 160 of the Criminal Code jo Article 93 of Law No. 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine jo Article 55 paragraph 1-1 of the Criminal Code and or Article 82 paragraph 1 jo Article 1 59 paragraph 3 letter c and d Law No. 16 of 2017 concerning Community Organization jo Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 penal code jo Article 10 letter b penal code jo Article 35 paragraph 1 penal code.
