DIY - The Bantul Regency Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP) has submitted a mouth and nail disease (PMK) vaccine to the central government.
Head of the Bantul Food and Agriculture Security Service, Joko Waluyo, said that the application for PMK disease prevention in livestock that reappeared at the end of 2024.
"We submitted it to the central government, but it doesn't exist yet, and when it will be given we don't know, hopefully from the center there will be a vaccine," he said in Bantul, Sunday, January 5, as reported by Antara.
According to him, the application for vaccines to prevent the transmission of PMK cases in the livestock follows the disease in cattle in the Bantul area, resulting in the death of 11 cows belonging to Bantul farmers.
Joko explained that vaccines to prevent PMK had previously been given assistance from cattle traders associations, but only 250 doses had been vaccinated and had been carried out at the end of December 2024.
"Yesterday there was assistance for vaccines from the association of livestock traders, for Bantul there were 250 doses, even though the Bantul cattle population was almost 70 thousand, so there were still less, so there was still a need for more," he said.

He said, while waiting for the PMK vaccine, his party hoped that cattle farmers should not be directly mixed with old livestock, but be quarantined first to ensure that there was no potential for transmission if the cow was exposed to PMK.
"If you buy a new livestock, don't mix it immediately, but isolate it first, separated from the old one in anticipation of no transmission," he said.
He further said that cases of PMK transmission to livestock in Bantul had appeared in 2022, then disappeared, but at the end of 2024 it reappeared. According to him, this condition is also experienced in other areas.
"So the PMK case is national, in the Gunungkidul area there are many deaths, and East Java there are also many cases. So we cannot judge. But our hope is that it will subside soon, it will not be prolonged," he said.
