Sitting On A Motorbike Waiting For Children, Elderly In Tanjungpinang Attacked By Wild Dogs

TANJUNGPINANG The Health Service (Dinkes) of Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands, handled an elderly citizen with the initials SM (68) who was the victim of a wild dog bite.

"The victim has received medical treatment, but there is no evidence whether the person concerned is infected with rabies or not," said Head of the Tanjungpinang Health Office Rustam in Tanjungpinang, Antara, Sunday, August 10.

SM was attacked by a stray dog while sitting on a motorbike waiting for his son in the Rimba Jaya area, Tanjungpinang, Wednesday, August 6 evening.

The brown dog bit the victim's right calf, causing a gaping wound and bleeding a lot.

The victim was then taken by his son to the Tanjungpinang Hospital for medical treatment.

"Arriving at the hospital, the victim was subjected to sewing on bite wounds, then given anti-rabies vaccines, tetanus injections, and antibiotics," said Rustam.

After treatment, the victim was allowed to go home. However, the next day, Thursday (7/8/2025), SM returned to the Tanjungpinang Health Center because it still felt pain in bite scars.

"We continue to monitor the condition of the victim. For further treatment and replacement of the bandages, the victim gets services from the puskesmas," said Rustam.

The Tanjungpinang Health Office also coordinates with the village government, babinsa, bhabinkamtibmas, puskesmas, Agriculture Service, Animal Quarantine, and manager of the Rimba Jaya area.

Berdasarkan hasil koordinasi, disepakati akan dilakukan pemantauan selama 14 hari untuk memastikan tidak ada lagi korban gigitan anjing liar, khususnya di kawasan kuliner Rimba Jaya.

Based on the results of the coordination, it was agreed that 14 days of monitoring would be carried out to ensure that there were no more victims of stray dog bites, especially in the Rimba Jaya culinary area.
