JAKARTA - Japan opposes Israel's plan to take over the entire Gaza city of the Palestinian region.

Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi said Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to hinder the realization of a two-state solution to ending the conflict in Gaza.

"Japan once again urges all parties to re-negotiate and work in good faith towards the ceasefire and release of hostages," Minister Iwaya said in an official statement issued by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoted from AFP.

Japan is also concerned about Israel's decision to exacerbate the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

"Repairing the alarming humanitarian situation in Gaza is an urgent priority. Japan urges Israel to take substantive steps to end a serious humanitarian crisis, including hunger, and reaffirm our strong demands that Israel fully adhere to international law, including international humanitarian law," the statement said.

Japan consistently supports a two-state solution, in which independent Israel and the Palestinian state coexist peacefully and safely, through the development of trust and negotiations between the parties.

Japan remains committed to continuing to make it happen, according to the statement.
