Residents Of Batudaa Gorontalo Beach Still Survive In Hills To Anticipate Tsunami Impact

GORONTALO - A number of residents in Batudaa Pantai, Gorontalo Regency chose to flee to hilly areas as a measure to anticipate the potential tsunami caused by an earthquake in Russia.

One of the refugees, Pradtiya Mantulangi, said that in the refugee camps there were two families consisting of seven adults and three children.

"When we heard the news that a tsunami was about to occur in Gorontalo, we panicked and immediately took refuge in this hill," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 39.

He and his family have started to evacuate since 12.00 WITA, when the news spread.

He said the residents of the Batudaa Beach area who fled were not only the two families, but quite a lot and indeed different places from them.

He revealed the reason they were still surviving and staying at the refugee camp, because at midnight there was a tsunami, already in a safe place.

"We have also brought food ingredients and made stoves to cook here," he said.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) emphasized that tsunami early warning was still active, following oscillations or variations in the results of sea level measurements that were still monitored at a number of monitoring stations.

BMKG has not been able to lift the tsunami warning because wave oscillations can experience sudden amplification in the final phase.

A total of five provinces with tsunami potential alert status, namely North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, North Maluku, Papua, and West Papua, as stated in the tsunami early warning issued by BMKG after an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 in Kamchatka, Russia, Wednesday morning.
