JAKARTA - United Nations (UN) Head of Help Tom Fletcher, welcomed Israel's announcement of what he called a "humanitarian bridge" in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

"Welcoming the announcement of the humanitarian break in Gaza so that our aid can continue to flow," UN Emergency Assistance Coordinator Fletcher wrote on X.

"Relations with our team on the pitch that will do everything we can to reach as many people who are starving in this time span," he continued.

Israel previously announced a 10-hour "thitical jeda in military activity" in three Gaza regions on Sunday, as international anger grew over hunger in the Palestinian territories.

"To scale up humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip, local tactical breaks in military activity will be imposed for humanitarian purposes," the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Sunday.

The pause, which covers the Al-Mawasi region, Deir al-Balah, and parts of Gaza City, will start at 10.00 to 20.00 local time, continuing every day "until further notice," the military said.

The designated "safe route" will also be set from 06.00 to 23.00 local time, to allow UN convoys and humanitarian organizations to safely deliver and distribute food and medicine throughout Gaza, the IDF said.

Meanwhile, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) which states that nearly 100,000 women and children are suffering from severe acute malnutrition in the region, also positively welcomes the move.

"This new commitment to improving operational conditions is an addition to previous guarantees from Israel to strengthen the facilitation of humanitarian aid," the program said in a statement.

However, the program added, "the agreed ceasefire is the only way that humanitarian aid can reach all civilians in Gaza."

Separately, Joe English, an emergency communications specialist for UNICEF, gave a more cautious response.

"This is a short time in terms of the notification we received, so we can't do the magic," he told CNN.

"We are able to prevent malnutrition, we are able to treat malnutrition, but that won't happen in a day."
