175 Kilometers Of Roads In Jakarta Damaged, DKI Provincial Government Reveals The Cause

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Bina Marga Office recorded as many as 175 kilometers of roads in Jakarta experiencing damage as of early 2025.

This data was obtained from the results of a survey by the Highways Office and public reports.

From the beginning to the middle of this year, about 60 percent of damaged roads have been repaired and will be completed by the end of 2025.

In the process, road repairs are divided into two types, namely temporary repairs to minor and small-scale damage and permanent repairs through a number of processes.

"Currently, about 60 percent of the total length of damaged roads have been repaired, and the rest will continue to be processed in stages until the end of 2025," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Highways Agency, Wiwik Wahyuni, to reporters, Sunday, July 27.

Wiwik explained that road damage in Jakarta was not only caused by rain which had an impact on material quality, but was an accumulation of various factors.

One of them is because the capacity of the drainage system is not yet optimal in flowing surface water quickly and effectively.

"The burden of vehicles that exceed the road capacity, especially over-dimensional vehicles that are overloaded (ODOL) is also a factor," said Wiwik.

In addition, unstable soil conditions, including those that have been saturated with water due to prolonged inundation, also cause the road to be damaged.

Then, road damage also occurs due to high slowing activity and acceleration of vehicles at intersection areas or traffic congestion points.

"The return of road conditions after the utility digalian that was not in accordance with technical standards also caused road damage," explained Wiwik.

The road maintenance budget, according to Wiwik, is prepared annually based on needs in the field and priority scale, with the main aim of ensuring the safety and comfort of road users.
