JAKARTA - The Chinese government has welcomed France's plan to convey recognition of Palestinian sovereignty at the UN General Assembly session in September 2025.

"China supports the upcoming UN's high-level conference on the implementation of a two-state solution," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun told a news conference in Beijing, Friday, July 25, reported by ANTARA.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron through his X social media account on Friday (25/7) stated that the country he leads is ready to recognize Palestinian sovereignty before the UN General Assembly in September 2025 for a just and sustainable peace in the Middle East.

"The Palestinian issue is at the heart of the Middle East situation. The only way that deserves to solve it lies in a two-state solution," added Guo Jiakun.

China, Guo Jiakun said, will continue to work closely with other UN member countries to end the Gaza conflict.

"We will continue to work together to defuse the humanitarian crisis, implement a two-state solution, and realize a full, fair and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue," said Guo Jiakun.

Meanwhile, regarding the worsening condition in Gaza due to the delay in humanitarian assistance entering the location, Guo Jiun said China was seriously monitoring the current situation in Gaza.

"We hope that the relevant parties will reach a ceasefire and defuse the situation as soon as possible, and effectively alleviate the humanitarian crisis," added Guo Jiakun.

In a statement, French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the delivery of humanitarian aid are things the Gazan people currently need.

Hamas' demilitarization as well as security guarantees and rebuilding for Gaza is the next destination, Macron said.

He said that in the long term, the international community must work hand in hand to ensure the establishment of the Palestinian State and ensure that the country can survive.

Upon Macron's announcement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US firmly rejected Macron's decision and called it "surprised" because it wanted to recognize the Palestinian state.

To date, the Palestinian state has been recognized by 147 countries, but the United States is not among them. By 2024, Washington will veto the full membership of Palestine in the United Nations.

Since 2024, Palestine has been recognized by ten new countries, including Ireland, Norway, Spain, and Armenia.

Meanwhile, European leaders such as Ireland, Spain, Scotland, welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron's announcement that France would recognize the Palestinian State in September, calling it an important step towards peace in the Middle East.
