BANTUL - Yogyakarta Special Region Bantul Police revealed the crime of stealing road signs in the Jalan Barongan Imogiri area with the perpetrator's mode of using a car with a red plate police number in carrying out the action.

"The suspect is a man with the initials YP alias Komal who is 47 years old, an entrepreneur from Ngaglik, Sleman Regency. He was secured by officers after carrying out his action on July 10, 2025," said Sanden Sector Police Chief (Kapolsek) AKP Joko Mulyono at a press conference reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 16.

According to him, the disclosure of the crime of theft began on Thursday (10/7) at 10.00 WIB, members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sanden Police received information from the public about the activity of cutting road signs in the Barongan Imogiri road area.

From this information, officers rushed to the location and when they arrived at the location saw someone with a red plate pickup car with police number AB 1045 UB cutting road signs.

"After being asked about the identity and physical characteristics of the perpetrators, the officers believed that the person was the person who had been the TO (Operation Target) of the Sanden Police who had been looking for the name YP alias Komal," he said.

After a brief interrogation, the person admitted that he was named YP alias Komal, and also admitted that he had committed a criminal act of stealing billboards in the jurisdiction of the Sanden Police.

"From the results of the investigation, it was found that the perpetrator rented a pick-up car and changed the original number plate to a red plate that had been made based on the perpetrator's observation of the Transportation Service car," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sanden Police, Ipda Haryono, said that related to the crime of theft of billboards, on July 23, 2024 on the Southern Cross Road (JJLS), to be precise, Tegalsari Hamlet, Srigading, there had been theft of billboards belonging to the Bantul Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

The missing billboard frame is made of a black iron pipe, a pole of a 10-dim iron pipe with a height of 10 meters, there is a zinc-like board or base in the billboard frame measuring 4x6 meters with two faces.

The front is related to three tsunami response measures, while the back is an abrasion alert.

"For this incident, BPBD Bantul suffered a loss of Rp. 50 million, and reported the incident to the Sanden Police for further investigation and investigation," he said.
