Mataram City Police (Polresta) investigators officially detained the Head of the Economic Bureau of the Regional Secretariat (Setda) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, Wirajaya Kusuma, in connection with the alleged corruption case in the procurement of COVID-19 masks in 2020.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Mataram Police, AKP Regi Halili, confirmed the detention.

"Yes, that's right. We are detaining according to procedures," said Regi in Mataram, quoted from Antara, Monday, July 14.

Before being detained, Wirajaya, who at the time of procurement served as Head of the NTB Cooperatives and MSMEs Office, first underwent examination as a suspect, as well as a medical test.

Head of the Corruption Crime Unit of the Mataram Police Satreskrim Iptu I Komang Wilandra said Wirajaya acted as the power user of the budget (KPA) in the procurement of the mask.

"As a KPA, everything about the implementation of procurement must be signed by him," said Wilandra.

Wirajaya was present before investigators at 09.00 WITA accompanied by a team of attorneys. During the examination, investigators asked about 100 questions. The detention was carried out at 15.30 WITA at the Mataram Police Detention Center.

This case dragged six suspects. Apart from Wirajaya, investigators also named the former Deputy Regent of Sumbawa Dewi Noviany, the younger brother of the former NTB Governor Zulkieflimansyah as a suspect. The other four suspects are Kamaruddin, Chalid Tomassoang Bulu, M. Haryadi Wahyudin, and Rabiatul Adawiyah.

In the investigation process, 120 witnesses have been examined. Investigators have also pocketed the results of an audit of state losses from the NTB Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) worth Rp1.58 billion from the total procurement budget of Rp12.3 billion.

The suspect was charged with Article 2 paragraph (1) and/or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.
