JAKARTA - Indonesia emphasizes the importance of equal, fair, inclusive partnerships between ASEAN and the European Union (EU) to maximize the potential for cooperation between the two regions, said Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono.
Speaking at the ASEAN-EU Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday, the Indonesian Foreign Minister appreciated the ongoing developments in negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the EU and several ASEAN member countries, including Indonesia.
The Indonesian Foreign Minister also highlighted the ASEAN-EU relationship that continues in other sectors, such as sustainable development and energy transition.
Nevertheless, Foreign Minister Sugiono reminded that both parties could go further, it is important to avoid unilateral steps that could harm one party, therefore it does not reflect ASEAN-EU's relationship as a Strategic Partner.
"The huge potential of the ASEAN-EU economy can only be realized through mutually beneficial and non-discriminatory policies," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, Friday, July 11.
Foreign Minister Sugiono further said that the ASEAN-EU dialogue must continue to be fostered, including through the continuation of the Joint Working Group on Palm, Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement, as well as regarding the potential for cooperation within the framework of the Indo-Pacific.
