JAKARTA - The United States and Israel crossed the big red line by attacking Iran's nuclear facilities, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned, as he was about to fly to Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin today.

"They crossed a very large red line by attacking nuclear facilities (Iran)," Foreign Minister Araghchi said on the sidelines of the 51st Ministerial Conference of Islamic Cooperation Organizations in Istanbul, Turkey on June 21-22, as reported by Arab News June 23.

Foreign Minister Araghchi's statement follows US President Donald Trump's announcement that US warplanes attacked three Iranian nuclear sites, nine days after the Israeli bombing campaign targeting its nuclear facilities.

Foreign Minister Araghchi said it was a dangerous act, although he had not received any important information about the extent of damage to Iran's nuclear facilities, asserting it was a serious crime.

"Through this action, the United States has dealt a crushing blow to international peace and security," he said, vowing Iran would defend itself "at all costs necessary against US military aggression".

Foreign Minister Araghchi said he would head to Moscow on Sunday and hold talks with President Vladimir Putin on Monday morning.

"I will go to Moscow this afternoon" to hold a "serious contest with the Russian president tomorrow," he said.

Following the attack, President Trump said Iran "now must agree to end this war."

However, Foreign Minister Araghchi said any demand to return to negotiations was "unrelevant."

"The world must not forget that it is the United States that is in the midst of a process to forge diplomatic results that betray diplomacy by supporting the Israeli regime that commit genocide to wage a war of illegal aggression against the Iranian people," he said.

"So we are in diplomacy, but we are attacked. They have proven that they are not diplomatic people, and they only understand the language of threats and violence," he added.

Tehran and Washington are known to be working to restore the nuclear deal (JCPOA) which was abandoned by the first term of President Trump's administration in 2018. After five rounds of negotiations, the sixth round of US-Iran negotiations was originally held on June 15 in Oman.
