JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has started the construction of a 2.5 meter high tidal flood mitigation embankment in Muara Angke, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. This embankment functions to prevent coastal flooding from overflowing into residential areas.
When reviewing the construction process, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung hoped that the higher rob-retaining embankment would not invite new residents to stay and result in an increase in the number of residents in the area.
This is Pramono's warning to pay attention to the local sub-district, village head, and RT-RW. Because, if the population density in the surrounding area increases, land subsidence will occur more significantly and the function of the mitigation embankment will not be optimal.
"Please when the construction has been carried out, don't then add new residents who then take advantage of this situation. Because this is not an easy job," said Pramono in Muara Angke, Central Jakarta, Thursday, June 12.
In fact, Pramono will make a rule prohibiting the use of ground water for residents in the area where the mitigation embankment is being built.
"Once groundwater is taken, it becomes and accelerates the descent of the ground surface. And it is very dangerous for the community. Then we will immediately distribute clean water in this area. Because now it has been done by PAM Jaya," explained Pramono.

This year, the 2.5 meter high mitigation embankment will be built with a length of 1.4 kilometers. The construction of the embankment cost Rp52 billion. Previously, the DKI Provincial Government had freed 282 buildings that were the sites for the construction of the 120 hectare embankment.
Pramono targets the construction of the mitigation embankment to be completed in December. Furthermore, the DKI Provincial Government will rebuild the 1 kilometer mitigation embankment.
"Next year we will rebuild 1 kilometer, so that 2.4 kilomegers are in this place. It is really something related to tidal flooding that will hopefully be handled properly. We are grateful that the residents and also the RW Chair behind me have jointly affected this development to overcome the tidal flood," he said.
