Budi Gunawan Leads Destruction Of 2 Tons Of Shabu In Batam

BATAM - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan in Batam, Thursday, led the destruction of 2 tons of methamphetamine-type drug evidence that was smuggled through the waters of the Riau Islands using the Sea Dragon Tarawa ship.

Apart from the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, Commissioner General of Police Martinus Hukom, the Presidential Chief of Staff, Commission III of the DPR RI, the main officials of the TNI, Polri and the Attorney General's Office, as well as a number of other stakeholders.

The destruction of 2 tons of methamphetamine was packaged in the Anti-Drug People's Party and was coupled with leisurely walking activities which were attended by thousands of residents in the Engku Putri Square, Batam City.

Then it was supported by the MSME booth and the music entertainment stage by featuring rapper Iwa Kusuma and the capital city artist.

The event started at around 06.30 WIB, starting with a leisurely walk which was attended by students, students, employees, and residents of Batam City.

This extermination event was also attended by community associations from various regions, such as Central Java, East Java, Kalimantan, and North Sumatra, who jointly declared war against drugs.

The destruction was carried out symbolically as much as a few kilos of crystal methamphetamine in Engku Putri Square, then destroyed at PT Air Cargo Village, Kabil, Nongsa, B3 waste management.

Head of the Riau Islands National Narcotics Agency, Brigadier General Hanny Hidayat, said that community involvement in the destruction of 2 tons of methamphetamine is a strong symbol that the war on drugs is a shared responsibility.

He said this step was a sign of a change in approach in drug eradication efforts in Riau Islands.

"Today we are not only destroying evidence, but also burning collective enthusiasm to fight drugs together," said Hanny, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 12.

Previously, on May 20, 2025, the Sea Dragon Terawa ship suspected of carrying narcotics sailed from Andaman waters to Riau Islands waters.

Furthermore, on May 22, 2025 at around 23.00 WIB, BNN officers supported by the full strength of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise who deployed two ships and supported by Lantamal IV who deployed two warships, and supported the Riau Islands Regional Police and Bais TNI together carried out an operation to take action against the ship.

When passing through Indonesian waters, joint officers managed to capture and take the ship to the Customs Pier at Tanjung Uncang Port for a search and inspection of the crew.

During the search, officers found 67 boxes containing 2,000 packs of methamphetamine weighing approximately 2 tons or precisely 2,115,130 grams wrapped in typical packaging commonly used by the Narcotics Network "Golden Triangle".
