Police Arrest 1,2 Kilograms Of Crude Gold Collectors In Merangin Jambi

Jambi Police Ditreskrimsus managed to arrest two raw gold collectors with evidence of 1.2 kg of gold from gold mining without permission (Peti) in the Merangin Regency river, Jambi.

"We arrested the two men from Merangin Regency after being caught carrying gold from an illegal 1.2 kilogram mine where the gold was hidden in a motorcycle seat and wanted to be taken to a buyer in West Sumatra," said Wadirkrimsus Jambi Police AKBP Taufik Nurmandiya as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 27.

The arrests were made on Saturday, May 24 in front of the Merangin District Court, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, after the team conducted an investigation.

AKBP Taufik said the arrests stemmed from public information about illegal gold shipments that would pass through the area.

During the inspection, we found two plastic packages containing pure gold grains weighing about 1.2 kg in the seat of the motorcycle driven by suspect Anr.

After being interrogated, Anr admitted that the gold came from illegal mines and would be sent to potential buyers in West Sumatra.

From the results of the development of the case, officers again arrested the suspect Smr, the gold owner and the person who ordered Anr to deliver the illicit goods to West Sumatra.

"This packaging was collected by suspectSmr from illegal mining activities in the Tabir area, Merangin. They claimed to have carried out this activity 10 times since early 2025," explained AKBP Taufik.

From the suspect's hands apart from 1.2 kg of gold, the police confiscated a number of pieces of evidence, including the Honda Supra X motorbike, Rp2.5 million in cash as a travel fee, as well as four cell phones used for communication.

The two perpetrators were charged with Article 161 of Law Number 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining, as amended by Law Number 2 of 2025, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp. 100 billion.
