Commission I Of The House Of Representatives Holds Closed Meeting With The TNI Commander

JAKARTA - Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives held a closed meeting with the TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, Navy, and Air Force in the House of Representatives Commission I Meeting Room at Nusantara II Building, Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, May 26.

Based on the agenda of the DPR RI meeting, the meeting will discuss a number of strategic agendas. However, it was not clear whether the meeting would also discuss an evaluation of the incident in the destruction of fuel ammunition in Garut that killed 13 people.

Previously, on Thursday 15 May, the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, asked Commission I of the DPR to immediately summon the TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and related ranks to be asked for an explanation regarding the explosion incident in the destruction of fuel ammunition in Garut, West Java, which killed 13 people.

"Why did that happen, of course later Commission I must be able to summon the Commander and Danrem or organs and ranks who were involved at the time of the incident," said Puan at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Thursday, as reported by Antara.

Puan also emphasized the importance of accountability and explanation from the TNI considering the alleged involvement of local residents in destroying ammunition without adequate security procedures.

"Don't let something like that happen again, it must be evaluated why it happened and next time don't let it involve civil society," he said.

To note, the victims of the ammunition incident in Garut consisted of four members of the Indonesian Army and nine civilians. For the TNI, the dead were 2 officers and 2 non-commissioned officers. Now, the cause of the explosion is being investigated by the Indonesian Army.
