JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono called for solidarity and ongoing technical assistance from the ASEAN country for Timor Leste membership, assessing that the country has shown real progress.
This was conveyed by Foreign Minister Sugiono during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM) on Sunday (25/5), before the ASEAN 46th Summit series at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, Malaysia.
On this occasion, Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia's full support for the adoption of the ASEAN legal instrument accession guidelines by Timor Leste.
"Timor-Leste has shown real progress. This process must be practical, support and accelerate integration, not hinder it," said Foreign Minister Sugiono in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sunday (25/5).
Foreign Minister Sugino further in this AMM called for solidarity and ongoing technical assistance from all ASEAN member countries, to support Timor Leste's journey to become the 11th ASEAN member.
Previously, Foreign Minister Sugiono also emphasized support for Timor Leste's full membership in ASEAN, including through a capacity building program, when receiving the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste Bendito dos Santos Freitas in Jakarta on March 3, 2025.
"Timor-Leste is part of the ASEAN family, and Indonesia is ready to support the steps towards full integration," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
