High Airplane Ticket Prices, Commission V DPR Encourages Indonesia's Aviation Transformation

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission V of the DPR, Syaiful Huda, highlighted a number of problems that surround the Indonesian banking world, one of which is the high price of airplane tickets. Huda assesses that it is important to create the best ecosystem for the Indonesian aviation industry. According to him, it is time for Indonesia to have a progressive aviation industry ecosystem that even exceeds neighboring countries in Asia.

"I fully support the creation of the best ecosystem for the aviation industry by transforming Indonesian flights. I believe it is time for Indonesia to have a progressive aviation industry ecosystem," said Huda, Saturday, May 24.

"Can synergy be carried out with all interested parties to become a shared agenda so that they can create transformation or reform of the national aviation industry?" he continued.

According to Huda, if there is a joint commitment to create the transformation of Indonesian aviation, then the step that must be taken immediately is to realize the national flight roadmap. He considered that the preparation of this roadmap must be agreed upon when it is implemented together.

"If this is done, then we will have a much better future plan for the aviation industry," he said.

Huda said, one of the main issues that need great attention is the modernization of technology and rejuvenation of equipment or digitization.

"Whatever we invest in in the future, it must be part of an integrated spirit of transformation. This must be done thoroughly, not half-heartedly," he said.

Another issue that must also be discussed by the government and related stakeholders, added Huda, is related to ticket prices. According to him, the high ticket price is still one of the problems that must be addressed immediately.

"The reduction in ticket prices is important. But actually if the ticket price is still high but the service provided is excellent, there are no flight delays and comfortable infrastructure, then people can receive a slightly higher price because they feel that they are getting a commensurate value and service," he said.

Huda said that the high ticket price was due to the aviation fuel price which had only been controlled by one party, namely PT Pertamina. According to him, several issues that have been considered taboo need to be opened to the public, discussed openly and sought common solutions.

"Why don't we discuss the possibility of opening this market? If we agree that this is part of reform, then there must be a change. Because the price of the avtur is one of the largest components of flight operational costs," he said.

Huda also hopes that the government and all stakeholders can sit together and make the aviation industry issue a national agenda even as a legacy of the nation. Because he said, Indonesia has great potential.

"And in this way, we can make a thorough improvement, not only limited to the five issues that we have discussed so far," he concluded.
