JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) hopes that the panel of judges can consider exploring the involvement of other people besides the defendant Jumran when committing the crime of murder of a journalist from Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, Juwita.
Komnas HAM member Uli Parulian Sihombing said that based on the facts, there was a span of 16 minutes that showed that Jumran's journey after executing the victim needed further examination of the alleged involvement of other parties.
"This includes facts about the defendant who was riding three times with an unknown person and the facts about the defendant who disappeared from the left side of the car (the driver) before the car drove," Uli said in a press conference, Friday, May 23, as reported by ANTARA.
Komnas HAM encourages the Panel of Judges to objectively examine and decide the case, implicitly, based on the principles of justice, and avoid the victim's blaming and gender perspective.
Uli said this must be done in order to produce a decision that truly reflects respect, protection, and recovery of human rights, in order to ensure the fulfillment of the right to justice for victims and their families.
In addition to the involvement of other people, Komnas HAM also asked the Panel of Judges to consider exploring allegations of sexual violence that occurred between December 2024 and January 2025 and before the crime of murder was carried out.
The reason, he said, was that there were facts about the victim's confession regarding the alleged sexual violence that occurred between December 2024-January 2025 and the results of the post-mortem found in the victim's body, which should have been carried out further examinations thoroughly.
"If the element of sexual violence is proven, then the defendant must also be charged with the article in the TPKS Law, so that justice can be carried out thoroughly," he said.
If the motive for Juwita's murder cannot be separated from the dynamics of sexual violence experienced by the victim for the first time, Uli believes that Juwita's death was a premeditated murder.
It was stated that Jumran felt threatened and was reluctant to take responsibility for his actions so he chose to plan the murder of Juwita.
"The defendant planned carefully by arranging the mobilization to prepare an alibi," said Uli.
