JAKARTA - The United Nations (UNICEF) Children's Fund warned on Sunday that the situation in the Gaza Strip had deteriorated significantly over the past two months due to the Israeli blockade and the rejection of humanitarian aid.
UNICEF said in a post on its Twitter account that children in the Gaza Strip had faced relentless Israeli bombings and lost important items, services, and treatments that had saved lives since the start of the destruction war on the Strip.
UNICEF stressed the need to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza and immediately continue the ceasefire, quoted from WAFA January 19.
UNICEF insists, "the situation in the Gaza Strip has deteriorated significantly over the past two months due to the blockade and rejection of humanitarian aid."
Israel has closed all crossings to Gaza, preventing any humanitarian aid from entering since March 2. Israel claims it was done to pressure Palestinian militant groups Hamas to accept a ceasefire and release all hostages.
The latest conflict in the Gaza Strip broke out on October 7, 2023, when Palestinian militant groups led by Hamas attacked Israel's southern region, killing 1,200 people and holding 251 others hostage, according to Israeli calculations.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas followed by the release of the hostages was agreed upon by both sides and valid since January 19. It ended in March with Israel continuing its attacks on March 18.
