JAKARTA - Iran's foreign ministry summoned Britain's attorney in Tehran over the arrest of Iranian citizens in Britain.

Earlier this month, British police arrested 7 Iranian nationals in two separate operations, with three people charged last week for involvement in actions that may have helped foreign intelligence services.

The three men were detained and will attend the preliminary hearing on June 6, while four others have been released from custody but are still facing investigations.

"Responsibility for the inappropriate impact of the move, which appears motivated by political motives to put pressure on Iran, will be in the hands of the British government," state media quoted an Iranian foreign ministry official as saying by Reuters on Monday, May 19.

Britain's attorney was summoned on Sunday and asked to provide an official explanation of the reasons and legal basis for the arrest of Iranian citizens.

The British government put Iran at the highest level on its foreign influence list, requiring Tehran to register everything it does to use political influence in Britain.
