JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) noted that around 1,300 families (KK) were affected by floods and landslides that hit a number of areas in three districts in West Java Province during May 14-16.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, said that the flood submerged seven villages in Bandung Regency and Majalengka Regency, while landslides hit Lembang District, West Bandung Regency.
BNPB noted that of the approximately 1,300 heads of families affected by this disaster, hundreds of residents fled and a number of public facilities were also damaged.
He explained that in Bandung Regency, flooding occurred due to the overflow of the Citarum, Cikapundung, Cigede, and Cipalasari rivers after high-intensity rains flushed the area on Friday (16/5). Four affected villages, namely Bojongsoang and Bojongsari villages in Bojongsoang District, Lagadar Village in Margaasih District, and Panyadap Village in Solokan Jeruk District.
"Flooding with water levels reaching 80 centimeters had an impact on 187 families. There were no reports of casualties or damage to houses," said Abdul.

As of Saturday (17/5), the Bandung Regency BPBD is still cleaning up mud material and handling it with joint teams and residents.
Meanwhile, flooding also occurred in Majalengka Regency due to the overflow of the Cisarung and Ciputis rivers which were unable to accommodate the rainwater discharge. The five affected villages are Liangjulang, Kadipaten, and Heuleut villages in Kadipaten District, as well as Dawuan and Leuwikidang villages.
"A total of 1,092 families were affected, and 40 of them were displaced. The flood has begun to recede, but the evacuation and rapid assessment are still ongoing," said Abdul.
In West Bandung Regency, landslides occurred first on Wednesday (14/5) in nine villages in Lembang District. As a result of the landslide, one person suffered serious injuries and 10 others were slightly injured.
"A total of 25 houses were directly affected and 32 other houses were threatened with landslides. Three public facilities were also reported to be damaged," he said.
He ensured that the West Bandung BPBD had evacuated 38 families or 131 people to three evacuation points. Distribution of logistical assistance and handling of injured victims continues, including the closure of landslide cliffs and relocation of houses in vulnerable zones.
BNPB urges people in West Java to remain alert to potential hydrometeorological disasters, especially in hilly areas and riverbanks during the rainy season.
The potential for hydrometeorological disasters is in line with early warning reports, the results of weather analysis from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) which previously predicted West Java Province to be hit by heavy-heavy rain with a 'Alert' status at least until May 19, 2025.alog
