BANTUL - The Bantul Regency Government together with the local election supervisory agency launched the Bawaslu Corner at the Bantul Regional Library (Perpusda), Yogyakarta Special Region, Saturday, as part of efforts to strengthen democratic literacy among the community, especially the younger generation.

Bantul Regent Abdul Halim Muslih during the launch of the Bawaslu Corner appreciated the very relevant Bawaslu initiative in the midst of efforts to strengthen the quality of democracy in Indonesia.

Abdul Halim said that Bawaslu Corner is a smart step that should be supported.

"Strong democracy requires intelligent, critical, and responsible citizens. Therefore, democratic literacy is important, especially for our young generation," he said.

According to him, the presence of Bawaslu Corner in the regional library is a strategic step because the library is a common information center and is of public interest.

With this facility, he hopes that the people of Bantul can use it as a center for living, dynamic, and educational media.

"Don't let our generation stutter or be indifferent to the dynamics of elections and democracy. Let's make Bawaslu Corner a space for learning democracy that ground and touches all people," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Bawaslu Bantul Regency, Didik Joko Nugroho, said that the presence of Bawaslu Corner is a form of active local Bawaslu response to the challenges of the times, especially in the midst of Generation Z which is very adaptive to technology and access to information that is so easy.

"This is a follow-up to our discussion with the Regent of Bantul some time ago, about how to provide relevant political education and democracy and touch the younger generation," he said.

Didik hopes that Bawaslu Corner will become a new magnet for the community, especially the younger generation, considering the library visit rate in Bantul is an average of 300 people per day.

"This is a strategic opportunity to spread the spirit of political education and democracy that is fresher and more accessible," he said.
