JAKARTA Ahead of Eid al-Adha in June this year, the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) has increased awareness of the spread of lumped skin diseases in cattle and buffalo or Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) through monitoring livestock traffic, distribution of vaccines, and rapid reporting via iSIKHNAS.

LSD is an infectious disease that attacks beef and buffalo skins with symptoms such as high fever, skin bumps, decreased milk production, and reproductive disorders. This disease is transmitted through direct contact between livestock or through vector insects such as flies and mosquitoes.

"We continue to monitor daily the incidence of infectious animal diseases including LSD through iSIKHNAS, this is a tool for us to get information and respond quickly," said Director of Animal Health, Imron Suandy in his official statement, Sunday, May 11.

The Ministry of Agriculture has distributed 57,200 doses of LSD vaccine to seven priority provinces, namely Lampung, West Java, Banten, Central Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan. Vaccines are given selectively to livestock in case areas and livestock that will be trafficked.

Imron revealed that the government's vaccine stock is limited. Therefore, he encourages livestock business actors to participate in self-vaccination or through the CSR program.

In addition, all field officers in the regional office have been instructed to actively carry out surveillance and immediately report any suspected cases. "Cleaning the cage and the environment is the main key to prevention. In addition, we also continue to carry out vaccinations," said Imron.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, Agung Suganda, invited the community's involvement in disease control. He also appealed to farmers to immediately report if they found LSD symptoms on their livestock so that medical action was carried out quickly.

"If we can suppress cases from an early age, we can keep the supply of sacrificial animals healthy and safe for people to consume," said Agung.
