ITB Student Who Uploaded Prabowo-Jokowi Meme To Be A Suspect, Detained At Bareskrim

The student of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) with the initials SSS has been named a suspect in connection with his action of uploading a meme depicting President Prabowo Subianto and the 7th President, Joko Widodo. In fact, he has been detained at the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

"Yes, he has been detained," said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Public Relations Division Kombes Erdi Ardimulan Chaniago when confirmed, Saturday, May 10.

However, it was not conveyed in detail since when the SSS was detained. Including, regarding the progress of the results of the examination such as motifs and so on

It is only stated that the case was handled by the Directorate of Cyber Crime (Ditipidsiber) of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

"It's still being investigated (regarding the motive)," said Erdi.

In this case, SSS, who has the status of a suspect, is suspected of violating Article 45 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 27 paragraph (1) and/or Article 51 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 35 of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE).

ITB previously stated that it had coordinated with various parties regarding the arrest of a student at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) by the police regarding the upload of state head memes through social media.

"In response to this news, we can convey that ITB has coordinated intensively and cooperated with various parties," said ITB's Director of Communication and Public Relations, Nurlaela Arief.

He said coordination was also carried out by the ITB University with the Student Parents Association (IOM) in responding to this case.

"The campus continues to provide assistance to female students," said Nurlaela.

As for the student, Nurlaela said the parents of the person concerned had come to the ITB campus this Friday and apologized.
