National Police Chief Guarantees Police Basmi Thugs

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo ensured that the National Police took firm action against any acts of thuggery.

This action, he said, was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's order to take firm action against thuggery.

"What is clear is that the Police take firm action against any acts of thuggery. Several prominent cases which went viral, we arrested all of them (the perpetrators)," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 9.

With this action, General Sigit provides certainty for investors to be able to invest calmly and safely in Indonesia.

"Regarding investment, there is no need to hesitate. Just come in. Security matters, we will handle it," he said.

The National Police Chief also appealed to the public to report to the police if they found thuggery activities in the vicinity.

"We are opening all complaint services. We will order our members to take firm action," he said.

The National Police held a simultaneous regional police operation since May 1, 2025 in order to eradicate thuggery.

This operation was carried out based on the Telegram Letter of the National Police Chief with Number STR/1081/IV/OPS.1.3./2025 which ordered all ranks of the Regional Police and Resort Police to enforce the law supported by intelligence, preemptive, and preventive measures.

During the operation, the Head of the Public Relations Division, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, said that the National Police had completed 3,326 cases of thuggery.

The prominent disclosures included the Subang Police securing nine perpetrators of thuggery in industrial areas, the Tangerang Police arrested 85 thugs, and the Central Kalimantan Police summoned the Chairman of GRIB Central Kalimantan regarding the closure of PT Bumi Asri Pasaman (BAP).

He said the disclosure of a number of thuggery cases was a tangible form of Polri's commitment to maintaining public security and order and supporting national economic growth.

"We will not tolerate acts of intimidation, extortion, or violence committed by individuals or groups under the guise of community organizations," he said.
