Weather Today: Heavy Rain In Kalimantan, Lightning Threatens Denpasar And Merauke

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that weather conditions in big cities in Indonesia on Thursday, May 8 generally have the potential to rain.

"On the island of Java, light to moderate rain has the potential to be in Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. Meanwhile, Serang is thick cloudy," said BMKG forecaster Aulia Siti Syahdian, quoted by ANTARA.

As for Sumatra, he said, light to moderate rain has the potential to occur in Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, and Palembang. Meanwhile, Aceh, Padang, and Bandar Lampung are forecasted to be cloudy.

"Denpasar and Mataram are predicted to rain thunderstorms and light rain. Meanwhile, Kupang has the potential to be cloudy," he said.

Furthermore, he continued, in Kalimantan areas that have the potential to experience heavy rain accompanied by lightning, namely Tanjung Selor, Palangkaraya, and Banjarmasin. Meanwhile, Pontianak and Samarinda are forecasted for light rain.

Moving to the Sulawesi area, he continued, Mamuju, Palu, Makassar, Gorontalo, and Kendari, are predicted to experience light to moderate rain. Meanwhile, Manado has the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning.

In Eastern Indonesia, said Aulia, in general there is the potential for light to moderate rain such as in Ternate, Ambon, Manokwari, Sorong, Nabire, and Jayapura. As for Jayawijaya and Merauke, rain accompanied by lightning is forecast.
