Gunil Leaves Xdinary Heroes, Admits to Talking about Fans

JYP Entertainment announced that Gunil, the drummer and leader, left the band Xdinary Heroes on Thursday, August 13. This news was revealed a few days after a rumor circulated involving Gunil's name.

"Regarding the issue with Gunil, our agency is aware of the situation and has discussed it with the artist. As a result, we decided that it was impossible for him to continue the group's activities and we decided to terminate the exclusive contract. We would like to inform you from today, Gunil has withdrawn from Xdinary Heroes and will complete the activities with the group," said JYP Entertainment.

On the same day, Gunil made a post through a fan platform which became his last statement in the group. He admitted that he did insult some of their fans, as circulated in the recording.

"I made an inappropriate remark to a fan in a phone call that became public. Whatever the reason I had (back then), it doesn't change the fact that the words came from me. I apologize to those who were disappointed by my words," Gunil wrote.

The recording that circulated was allegedly spread by someone who had been in a relationship with Gunil for several weeks.

"At that time, I felt mentally tired because of the bad comments and rumors about me. It felt more comfortable to share my concerns with strangers I didn't know very well than with those close to me. As a leader and the oldest member, I have to strengthen myself," he said.

Gunil also used this opportunity to mention sasaeng or a term for fans who are obsessed with his privacy. He even revealed that sasaeng tried to enter his residence.

"I realize my apology sounds more like an excuse. However, (the words) I never meant to Villains that I love and care about," continued Gunil.

"I want to stay but decided to respect the agency's decision," he concluded.

Xdinary Heroes debuted in December 2021 with six members, namely Gunil, Jooyeon, Jungsu, Gaon, Jun Han, and O.de. They will hold their latest fan meeting and plan to perform at several festivals, which were later canceled after Gunil left the band.
